After-the-Draw Update
Mega Millions 2026-10-13 Certified Drawing: A Distinct Shift from Prior Draw
No repeated numbers appeared compared to the previous 2026-10-09 drawing, with notable changes in number distribution and bonus ball placement.
an appear immediately beside a number from the previous drawing.
NUM8ER LABS studies these historical relationships to help explain what happened across completed lottery drawings. A neighboring number is an observation, not evidence that a particular number is more likely to appear next.
Three Numbers Appeared in the Lower Range
The October 13 drawing contained three lower-range numbers: 11, 12, and 15.
The other two numbers, 40 and 66, appeared in the upper range.
Using the Research Laboratory’s number ranges, the comparison looks like this:
| Number Range | October 9 | October 13 |
|---|---|---|
| Lower (1–15) | 2 | 3 |
| Middle (16–35) | 1 | 0 |
| Upper (36–70) | 2 | 2 |
The lower range gained one number, the middle range lost its only number, and the upper range remained unchanged at two numbers.
This is a useful example of how the distribution of lottery numbers can change from one drawing to the next, even when some other characteristics remain the same.
The Numbers Were Close Together — Then Far Apart
Another interesting feature of October 13 was the distance between its main numbers.
The first two numbers, 11 and 12, were consecutive. The next number, 15, was only three positions above 12.
After that, the gaps became much larger.
There was a gap of 25 between 15 and 40, followed by a gap of 26 between 40 and 66.
The complete sequence of gaps was 1, 3, 25, and 26.
October 9 looked different. Its consecutive gaps were 5, 9, 47, and 7.
That earlier drawing had one particularly large separation between 16 and 63, while October 13 had two substantial gaps after the closely grouped lower numbers.
Interestingly, October 13 actually covered a smaller overall numerical span: 55 positions between 11 and 66, compared with 68 positions between 2 and 70 on October 9.
So the latest drawing wasn’t more spread out overall. Instead, its numbers were arranged differently, with a tight group at the lower end and larger separations afterward.
One Thing Stayed Exactly the Same
Despite the changes in the numbers, their ranges, and their spacing, both drawings shared the same odd-and-even balance.
October 13 contained two odd numbers — 11 and 15 — and three even numbers — 12, 40, and 66.
October 9 also contained two odd numbers and three even numbers.
This is an important distinction when comparing lottery drawings.
Two results can have completely different main numbers while maintaining the same odd/even balance. Looking at the numbers themselves tells one part of the story; examining how those numbers are arranged reveals additional characteristics.
What Can Lottery Players Learn From These Two Drawings?
The October 13 Mega Millions drawing illustrates several things that can happen between consecutive results.
None of the previous main numbers repeated. Three numbers appeared close together in the lower range. The middle range contained no numbers. Two larger gaps separated the remaining numbers, while the odd/even balance remained unchanged.
The Mega Ball also moved from 8 to 17, changing from the lower to the upper Mega Ball range.
These are observations from two completed drawings, not evidence of a developing long-term pattern.
For lottery players interested in researching past numbers, the comparison shows why looking beyond the winning-number list can be informative. Repeats, nearby numbers, spacing, number ranges, and odd/even balance each provide a different way to understand what happened.
The important distinction is that historical Research helps explain completed lottery results. It does not tell us which numbers will appear in a future drawing.
