After-the-Draw Update: Mega Millions – 2026-10-20
This update reviews the certified Mega Millions drawing from October 20, 2026, highlighting how it compares to the previous certified draw.
The previous drawing, on October 16, produced 2, 15, 31, 41, and 68, with Mega Ball 11.
None of the five main numbers repeated between the two drawings. The Mega Ball also changed.
However, the absence of repeated numbers wasn’t the only interesting observation. The October 20 drawing placed more numbers in the middle of the main-number field, while maintaining exactly the same odd-and-even balance as the previous drawing.
No Main Numbers Repeated
One of the first things lottery players often look for is whether a number appeared in consecutive drawings.
Between October 16 and October 20, none of the five main numbers returned.
The October 16 drawing included 2, 15, 31, 41, and 68. Four days later, the five main numbers were 13, 28, 33, 35, and 48.
That represents a complete change in the main-number set.
The Mega Ball also changed from 11 to 3.
Although some players pay particular attention to repeated numbers, the absence of repeats does not establish what will happen in the next drawing. Each drawing remains an independent random event.
Three Numbers Landed in the Middle Range
The most noticeable change involved where the main numbers appeared.
On October 16, the five numbers were distributed with two in the lower range, one in the middle range, and two in the upper range.
On October 20, three numbers appeared in the middle range.
| Number range | October 16 | October 20 |
|---|---|---|
| Lower (1–15) | 2 | 1 |
| Middle (16–35) | 1 | 3 |
| Upper (36–70) | 2 | 1 |
The October 20 middle-range numbers were 28, 33, and 35.
The lower-range number was 13, while 48 was the only upper-range number.
This illustrates how two completed drawings can distribute their numbers differently across the same number field.
It does not establish that middle-range numbers are becoming more likely to appear.
The Odd-and-Even Balance Stayed the Same
Even though every main number changed, both drawings produced the same odd-and-even distribution.
October 16 contained three odd numbers—15, 31, and 41—and two even numbers, 2 and 68.
October 20 also contained three odd numbers—13, 33, and 35—and two even numbers, 28 and 48.
The numbers were different, but the balance was identical.
This is one example of how a numerical characteristic can remain unchanged across two drawings without any individual number repeating.
Were Any Numbers Close to the Previous Drawing?
Although no main numbers repeated, two numbers appeared close in value to numbers from October 16.
The October 20 number 13 was two away from the previous drawing’s 15.
The October 20 number 33 was two away from the previous drawing’s 31.
NUM8ER LABS examines these types of nearby-number relationships to describe how completed drawings compare.
They are observations of numerical proximity, not evidence that one number influences another or that nearby numbers will appear in future drawings.
A Different Spacing Pattern
The spacing between the main numbers also changed.
On October 20, the numbers appeared in this order:
13 → 28 → 33 → 35 → 48
The gaps between them were 15, 5, 2, and 13.
On October 16, the gaps were 13, 16, 10, and 27.
The latest drawing included a close pair, 33 and 35, separated by just two, while other numbers were farther apart.
The full October 20 set also covered a narrower numerical span, from 13 to 48, compared with 2 to 68 on October 16.
These differences describe the spacing of the completed drawings. They do not demonstrate a continuing clustering trend.
What Happened to the Mega Ball?
The Mega Ball changed from 11 on October 16 to 3 on October 20.
The latest Mega Ball was in the lower part of its separate number field.
Because the Mega Ball is drawn from a different pool than the five main numbers, its movement should be considered separately.
The change from 11 to 3 is a historical observation, not an indication of what the next Mega Ball will be.
What Can We Learn From These Two Drawings?
The October 20 Mega Millions drawing gives us several useful observations.
No main numbers repeated from the previous drawing, and the Mega Ball changed.
Three of the five main numbers appeared in the middle range, compared with only one in the previous drawing.
Both drawings maintained the same three-odd, two-even balance.
And although no numbers repeated, two of the latest main numbers were within two of numbers from the previous drawing.
Together, these findings demonstrate how completed lottery drawings can differ in number selection while sharing certain distribution characteristics.
They do not establish a predictive pattern or improve the mathematical probability of winning.
